Books Written By Children: A Great Way To Get Young Children Writing

Having very young writers write their own short illustrated story is an excellent way to get them engaged in creative writing. In the example below, 7 year old Laura wrote a story about a cat and illustrated it.  This might make an enjoyable school assignment.  Have the child spend a little extra time binding it with cord, ribbon, or yarn and also decorate the cover a bit with ribbon or other material and they will want to show it off to their friends and family members. Laura really enjoyed putting together the book shown below and her little 4 year old sister can hardly wait to make up her own book!
