Children's Timeline of World History

Home > History Activities > World Timeline Writing Assignment

We decided that our kids needed some additional practice writing so we had them do a timeline, writing about the events occurring in 50 year segment regiments starting in 1450. We picked this date deliberately since many important events affecting North and South America took place. The children's Grandfather, who majored in history, teaches the children and also assigns specific questions. The two older children were assigned more in depth questions.  The children research and write on the topics, have one of the adults proof read, make corrections and then type up their reports. At the end of the term, each child will have and extensive timeline. The timelines are posted below and will be updated as more segments are added.

Luke, Age 13:  1450-1500 1500-1600 1600-1700

David, Age 11: 1450-1500 1500-1600 1600-1700

Mark, Age 9: 1450-1500 1500-1600 1600-1700

Laura, Age 7: 1450-1500 1500-1600 1600-1700

Note: In Laura's 1500-1600 timeline, Laura dictated her report and an adult typed it. In the 1600-1700 timelines, all 4 students were given the same outline to fill in with historical facts.

Note: In all of the kids 1600-1700 timelines, outlines were given and the kids filled in missing information in each paragraph.
