Educational Television For Kids
Is educational television healthy for kids? The answer is "Yes, but...". Yes, it's good for kids but Educational television is even better for kids if they watch it with their parent or parents. I have my kids watch both the shows designed for kids and the ones made for adults. There may be some violence and unsuitable scenes in the adult documentaries, but if you as the parent are there to supervise and explain, this is an excellent opportunity to learn history at its fullest. I watched a Nazi Holocaust special on PBS with my 9 and 11 year olds. It was gruesome I admit, however I felt my kids can only learn history correctly if they can get a feel for the horrendous deeds committed by mankind. This was especially true for in our family's case since I had immediate family that were adversely affected by the Nazi regime. Here are a few resources to bookmark: PBS TV Schedules - There are countless history-related programs shown History Channel - If you have cable or satellite and get The History Channel, this is an excellent resource. Perhaps have a friend or family member tape shows for you.
